Frequently asked
No — Ground never sees or stores your bank username or password. We use Plaid, the same technology used by Venmo, Robinhood, and thousands of other apps. Your credentials go directly to Plaid's encrypted systems. Ground only receives your transaction data and balance — nothing that could be used to log in to your account.
Your data is stored in Google Firebase — encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2+. Only you can access your account. We use Firebase security rules so that no other user, including our team, can read your data through the app. Your Plaid connection token is also encrypted at rest.
Never. Ground has no ads and we do not sell, rent, or share your financial data with advertisers or data brokers. Your data is used for one thing: running the app for you. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The AI advisor (powered by Anthropic's Claude) can see the financial summary you've entered in Ground — your balance, bills, spending totals, and goals. It does not have direct access to your bank account and does not see your account numbers or credentials. Only the data you've stored in Ground is shared with the AI when you ask a question.
No. Ground is a personal finance tool, not a licensed financial advisor, broker, or credit counselor. The AI advisor provides general information based on your data — it's not a substitute for advice from a licensed professional. For major financial decisions, always consult a qualified advisor.
Every new account gets a 14-day free trial with full access to everything — bank sync, AI advisor, couple mode, and all features. No credit card required. After the trial, a subscription is required to keep bank sync and the AI advisor. Manual tracking, bills, goals, and budgets remain free.
Yes. Cancel anytime from your account settings — no hoops, no retention flow. You keep access through the end of your billing period. Your data stays in your account and you can export it at any time.
Each partner has their own account — no shared login. The person who invites shares a link; their partner taps it, signs in, and both accounts are linked. You can see each other's balance, spending, and bills in a combined view. One subscription covers both partners.
Ground supports over 10,000 US financial institutions through Plaid — including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, Capital One, credit unions, and most regional banks. If your bank supports online banking, it almost certainly works. Ground is currently available in the United States only.
Yes. You can enter your balance, income, and bills manually, import transactions via CSV from your bank's website, or log expenses one at a time. Bank sync is the easiest option but it's completely optional.
